A customer has ordered a notebook from me but someone got into his ear and recommended an apple. Apparently it is better at editing
images and video. Does anyone know if this is true?

No, definitely not. It's been shown many times that even an Apple native
application like Photoshop runs faster on a PC. One example here:

Many of my support customers are printing shops with a mix of Apples and
PCs. Most of them only keep Apples for compatibility with 'their' customers
reason. I find Apples and their software crude and slow. But I can
understand that it easier to learn and use for the 'unwashed'. After all its
a lot easier to grasp the functionality of a single button mouse than a 5
button with a scroll wheel.

Similar accolades apply to Linux. I just spent a week comparing it with
Windows 2003 and came to conclusion that yes, its wonderful for being mostly
free with masses of applications but ultimately crude and slow in
comparison.

But the supporters and enthusiasts of both camps would like to tell you
otherwise. Despite the fact that I hate M$ and its tactics I have to admit
that Windows is the best desktop solution. For web servers I prefer Linux
without any GUI add-ons.

Thanks, um, Alien Zord,

Looks like that solves the speed question. Do you know anything about the
functionality side of it? Is there anything the mac can do with picture and
video editting that the PC can't? I would have thought all of the software
for this would be from adobe and available on both platforms.

Funny you should mention that

Seems Adobe is not releasing some of their software for Apple anymore. No
new version of Premiere for example. They are even releasing softtware for
Windows with no Mac version. Read the article for more details.

Functionality is near identical but it looks like future updates of Adobe
software will be released on Windows first and on Apples later, if at all.

Thanks JT and AZ, this is very useful info!! The intel laptop arrived a couple of days ago and the customer is not sure if he wants
it or an apple. There is a fee for me to return it to the supplier which I will pass on to the customer but it gets messy, much
easier if he just takes the laptop. The day before it arrived someone was telling him that you have to have a mac to do image and
video editting. I thought he was a religious apple mac kinda nut just pushing his favorite platform. The problem was I couldn't get
any specific info of what exactly it did better so it was hard to respond, but your info has been *very* useful.
