I have a 2007 excel book and custom view icon is grayed out. I saved it from
being a 2003 .xls file. I can't get it "ungrayed". Ideas?

I have the same problem and I really can't figure it out. I opened a new
workbook, copied the sheet I wanted into it, and the custom view option was
unavailable.

That sheet has a table on - could that be something to do with it?

Yes, if you have defined an excel table anywhere in the workbook, the
custom views option will be unavailable ... if you convert the tables
to normal ranges, custom views will be available.

That may be so, however, I do not have any tables. Yes I did have, but as you suggested, I have converted the table(s) to normal ranges and still no custom views. I find that in their desire to make their software more user freindly, Microsoft have incorporated features (like this one) whereby one has to either have a masters degree in Excel from Harvard, together with a similar Masters degree in computer science from the other big uni who's name escapes me for the moment. Plus a masters degree in visual basic, together with a masters degree in Microsoft Windows (all versions from Windows 3.1 onwards), to enable ones-self to extricate ones-self from these supreemly frustrating situations. I have now spent three days on the internet trying to recover from a siuation with a spread sheet that took me three weeks to enter all the data into. No wonder I have come extreemly close to slitting my wrists during this period. All thanks to that Dick Brain Bill Gates.

P.S. Needless to say Microsoft's help system on this matter is about as useful as a hole in the head. There is nowhere that I can find on Microsoft help sites about 'custom views greyed out' because why else would I be wasting my time in bloggs like this one if Microsoft support had any technical credibility whatsoever, concidering that I am writing this three years after the intial entry and still no custom views !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not Rachel but is it possible you have more than one worksheet selected?

That would gray out Cusrom Views.
