Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I am new to windows server 2000 so I appreciate everyone's help.

I have set up server 2000 with Terminal Services for applications. The
server is accessed both within the small office we are in, and others connect
using remote desktop.

Currently, when someone uses Remote desktop to connect, they get the full
start menu that is available on the server. How can I customize what they
see? Ideally I'd like to be able to restrict them to just what software they
need, and turn off their ability to change the desktop background, etc. I
read up on how to create a mandatory profile, but I am unable to create the
custom start menu in a way that only those connecting through remote desktop
get the custom start menu.

What should I do?

thank you very much.

Hello,

Thank you for the link. I am reading through it now. One part caught my eye
though, "With the following settings, even the administrator account will
have restricted access"

Doesn't this mean I will not be able to remotely administer the server? The
ability to remotely administer it is required for this server. What can be
done to allow that to still occur?

Thank you.

the majority of the restrictions are under the user configuration, meaning
that they only apply to the users in that OU

If the domain administrator account is not in that OU (I don't recommend
that it be moved there else it would affect the administrator throughout the
domain), those restrictions won't be in place

another options is to connect remotely using the terminal server's local
administrator account to administer that server
