I have FrontPage 2003 and Windows XP. When I add a link to my Custom Link
Bar on a page, it doesn't get updated on my website when I publish the page.
It does get updated if I re-publish the whole website. So there must be
something else I need to publish besides the changed page (which doesn't show
that it's been changed (the asterisk on the tab) when I add a link. What am
I missing? Thank you.

You must publish the entire site using the Change Pages only option. When you select publish
selected page, on the actually page is published (copied) to the server, no images or other external
content linked to the page.

Thank you! I appreciate you response! I knew that I had to publish the
images separately. Can you tell me what the external content linked to the
page is that has to do with the Custom Link Bar? Or is it something that I
shouldn't mess with?

External content to a page, is anything that is not actual text/HTML code in the page.
Navbar/linkbar are external content, maintain externally to the page.

FP navigation components are normal based on your site's navigation structure, so the entire site
must be published whenever you have changes to the navigation structure or changes to the specific
linkbar, etc.

Thank you again! I didn't find this information in the two books on FP 2003
that I have or on Microsoft's website. I really appreciate these forums and
people, like you, who take their own time to answer our questions!

Custom Link Bar changes don't update when published

I had the problem for weeks found solution

I Had lost my derived folder:

Guys heres Solution.

Folders Like _Derived Are HIDDEN in root folder,
Select View all files in Menu :

right click website main folder and select View all files/ and or UNSELECT
HIDDEN and select for all files and folders.........

Now we can see the custom files
Copy the missing (hidden)files manually to your remote site.

I tried unhiding the folders but they still didn't appear in the folders list
in FP2003 to allow me to upload them?
I had the same problem with pages in custom link bars not being linked
together when I added new pages. In my case the pages were created using a
dynamic web template. When I picked Format\Dynamic Web Template\Update All
Pages it all worked OK after uploading. Note: it always worked if I looked
at the site locally using a browser.

FP never displays some generated folders (like _derived) which you can not edit
- it does display the _overlay folders used to generate the _derived folders

Normally changing anything in Nav View regenerates the _overlay folders which regenerate the _derived folder (especially after a
Tool Recalculate Hyperlinks)
You can sometimes force the regeneration by deleting the _over lay folders and running a Tool Recalculate Hyperlinks

Thanks for that. It's easier to fix problems when you know more about what
does what. I'll file that little nugget of info away for next time as doing
the Update All Pages will seem increasingly like a sledgehammer approach as
the site gets bigger.
