Gordon

I would like to create a customised help file. MS Access
Help gives me the following info.

Create a Help file.
How?

1. Create the source file by using the text editor or word-
processing program of your choice.
2. Save the source file in Rich Text Format.
3. Compile the Help file by using Microsoft Help Workshop.

1&2 are fine, but can't find out what MS Help Workshop is,
or where to get it.

What to do??

Gordon,

I believe the winhelp workshop (hcw.exe and it's associated
files) ships with the various developer tools. I don't
think it can be downloaded from MS.

In other words if you don't have any of the Visual Developer
tools or Office Dev tools then you'll have to try a google
search.

/start blatant plug
If you can wait a few weeks I'll have my Access Help Maker
utility ready for sale which will make .rtf and .hpj
skeletons, but you'll still need a winhelp compiler from
MS...
/end blatant plug

Good luck

Gordon,
... can't find out what MS Help Workshop is, or where to get it.

Help Workshop is a free Microsoft tool for creating files in WinHelp
(.hlp) format. You can download a copy from here:

http://www.helpmaster.com/hlp-developmentaids-hcw403.htm

However, have you considered delivering your help content in HTML Help
(.chm) format? This has more or less superseded WinHelp as the
standard for Windows desktop applications.

For more information on both formats, see:
