custom field codes

i have room data sheets that need to be automatically numbered as follows
Room No.
where the x changes per each data sheet
i'd like to use a field for this, but i tried AutoNum and it gives me a period at the end of the number, and if i use ListNum, it puts the number in parentheses
is there any way i can create a custom field that just shows the Arabic numeral?
