How do I keep a custom color in Excel. I have it in one workbook but when I
open a new one its not available. The only way to get it to the new file is
to copy/paste. Any thoughts on how to keep it a permanent color choice?

thanks.

To keep the new color palette permanent you need to make the change t
your Excel template which is the .XLT file in the folder C:\Progra
Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\XLStart If you don't have one you nee
to open a worksheet, create your color pallette, then save the file t
the location above with extention .XLT instead of .XLS. Every ne
workbook you create will have your custom color pallett

there is a file there PALMAPP.XLT. should i write over that or save a new
template?

thanks.

That is probably your current template. The way excel works when yo
open it up the workbook is at the default settings UNLESS you have
template in the XL startup folder. Try opening up the template you se
in there. You could just make your pallette change to that file and i
should "stick" to your new workbook

Most people use a workbook named Book.xlt for this purpose. It's located in
your XLStart folder.

If you don't want always want to use it as the basis for your new workbooks, you
could put the template file (named whatever you want:
MyTemplateWithNiceColors.xlt) and put it in your Templates folder.

When you do File|SaveAs and choose Template (*.xlt), that dialog will change
folders to your Templates folder.

Then if you want your customized colors, just File|New and select that template.
