When we use a custom background from a jpeg file, it does
not suppress when printing in pure black and white mode.
With a standard ppt template background, it does
suppress. How do we have to save the picture file (file
format) and where do we have to store it in order for it
to react the same when printing in pure B&W?

Either put your jpeg on your background using "format>background>fill
effect>picture"

Or my preferred method is to

View menu
Black and white
right click picture
choose "Black and white"
Set it to "dont show"
