Custom Animations

I am using Powerpoint 2003 to create training packages for the software the
company I work for develops. We have slides with many images & custom
animations on the one slide to describe (in step form) a particular function.
This works very well as a presentation but makes change management very
difficult as elements are hidden. Is there any way of viewing a list of
elements on each slide so that you can pick the element (say an image) on the
bottom & make changes without getting confused (I guess like layers in
Photoshop). It is easy for me to manage as I create the packages but if I am
away & someone else needs to make a small change it is quite tedious. The
alternative that has been suggested to me is to create many slides with fewer
images & animations for the one function, but this will significantly
increase our slide numbers. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Melkal,
That's one of the limitations that has been overcome with PowerPoint 2007.
There you can name the objects on a slide anyway you want and you can hide
or show them at leisure (Select and visibility task pane). Which makes it
easy to select and animate.
