CUSTOM ANIMATION

I am a newbie. I received a powerpoint file that has 7 slides in it. Each
slide is setup with 5 additional slides in it - or - a total of 35 slides. I
want to be able to select the slides I want from the 35 and place them in
another powerpoint presentation.

How do I stop the custom animation and have only the 35 slides from which to
choose.

Thanks.

Boyertown,
Have a look in slidesorter view (depending on your version of PPT click on
the second little icon in the left hand corner of your screen in PPT2003 or
right hand corner in PPT 2007), you should see them all there. You can
select all the slides you want by ctrl+clicking them, choose copy, paste
them in a new PPT-file.
Or use the Slides from file option in the Insert menu in PPT 2003 in a new
PPT file, browse for your mother presentation, select whatever slides you
want and click Insert. In PPT 2007, go to the Home tab, New slide, reuse
slides, in the task pane browse for your presentation and take it from
there.
Don't know what you mean exactly by stopping custom animation. But you can
not use the animations by going to Slide show - setup show - check show
without animation in the dialog.
If I misunderstood completely, post back.

Sorry, I had an emergency and was off-site for a time.

I am utilizing PPT2003. I followed your instructions below; however, I
must be continuing to do something incorrectly.

Although I viewed them in slidesorter view, only the first slide of the
multiple slides under it is shown. There is a shooting star next to each
slide (if that helps clarify).

For example, the first slide of the 7 appearing slides, in slidesorter view,
has a shooting star next to it. My problem is the underlying six slides
associated with the first slide is not viewable in slidesorter view. Neither
are the remaining underlying slides appearing with each additional slide in
the file.

I know they are there (hidden?), they show up during the actual slide
presentation; however, you cannot see them in slidesorter view.
Consequently, I am unable to select them for copying.

Perhaps this was created in PPT2007 and since I am in PPT2003, I cannot
access the underlying slides. Is that a possibility?

Thanks.

Jerry

Boyertown,
Let me see if I understand you correctly. You have a presentation with 35
slides in it, but only 7 of them show in normal editing view or slide sorter
view?
If those extra slides play on a click that could mean there is a link to
another presentation. For instance there could be an object on your slide
that links to another presentation, that object could be outside the
boundaries of your slide or even on your slide. Zoom out, to let's say 33 %,
is there anything in the grey area? If there is nothing, go to the custom
animation task pane, see if there is an animation listed there 'object x'.
Double click the entry, there should be a checkbox there to hide the object,
uncheck and see if the object turns up on your slide. In any case the object
is letting you link to another presentation that is on your PC.

You can hide slides, by hiding I mean they will not be shown during
presentation, but those will still appear in normal view (thumbnails at the
left) or in slide sorter view. The slides will have a number icon with a
strikethrough.

Luc,

I was thinking that maybe what the OP actually has is only 7 slides, but
each is just being built/added to over the course of 5 clicks, but even
then, the OP would see all of those additional object, text items, etc. when
in the editing mode, correct?

There is no way that additional pieces could be hidden (or way off slide)
until the show runs, is there?

If you only have 7 slides in sorter view, then each of the
"progressions" is animation effects to elements on the "base" slide. In
order to have break the animation into separate slides you would have to
copy the base slide 6 times and then selectively delete elements from
each of the copies so that your progression is built 1 slide at a time.
No easy way to do it that I know of.

That is correct.

another presentation. For instance there could be an object on your slide
that links to another presentation, that object could be outside the
boundaries of your slide or even on your slide.

Well, when you view the slide show itself, they play automatically. When
the primary slide appears, there is a pause of 7 seconds, and then the next
hidden slide appears. After 7 seconds, the next hidden slide appears. And
so on.

Zoom out, to let's say 33 %,

No. there is nothing there; however, I can see parts of the underlying
slides around the perimeter of the slide that does show up under Slide Sorter
view.

If there is nothing, go to the custom
animation task pane, see if there is an animation listed there 'object x'.

Not sure what you mean. I believe you want me to go to Custom Animation
under the Slide Show menu. I did that and what appears are the five or so
slides that are underneath the slide that appears in the Slide Sorter view.
These underneath slides are numbered 1 through 5 and have a mouse icon beside
it with a star and the slide name I presume. If I click on the first slide
underneath it brings up a Modify:Wheel with Start / Spokes / Speed showing.
Nothing there to 'hide the object'.
Double click the entry, there should be a checkbox there to hide the object,
uncheck and see if the object turns up on your slide. In any case the object
is letting you link to another presentation that is on your PC.

This is a presentation that I was given a copy of. There are no other
presentations associated with it or resident on my hard drive.

Thanks for your help.

Jerry

This presentation is comprised of text on the primary slides that appear in
Slide Sorter view. The underlying slides are pictures and appear with a
wheel spoke effect.

OK. I think you might be on to something here. Now, how do I do what you
are suggesting? How do you identify the elements? How do you selectively
delete elements?

Thanks.

sorry for the delay in replying, has been a very hectic day.

there is no short-cut to accomplishing this.

steps would be to view and identify visual elements on animation click
1, write them down

repeat for click 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

copy slide 1 7 times, on slide 1 select and delete each object that is
not referenced in your notes from previous step

repeat as necessary for all 7 slides and hopefully you will end up with
your master slide and 7 new slides, each one a progression of your
animation sequence.

you would need to repeat this for all 5 sequences in your presentation.

If you are interested, I would be willing to have a look at your file if
you want to send it to me
