I have been running a Cusl2-C motherboard p3/1000 cpu and 512mb ram.

The computer has been running fine for ages now and everything running
smoothly. Firstly the ps2 keyboard will not work after a while. It will beep
erratically (not the system beep)

But I suspect that the ps/2 keyboard socket might have just died as I've
changed keyboards and now its making the sound as soon as the computer is
switched on.

Can I just replace the keyboard with a USB one?

That will work - happened to my tusl2-c. I did have inexplicable problems
until i turned off dos-level support for usb, but could have been due other
faults in the board (eventually it died to a triple brown-out - RIP tusl2 :)
