Ok I have a toshiba tecrra laptop. I had a microsfot mouse, it started
moving around and opening the start menu and destop by itself. I have
bought and installed a logitech optical mouse and it has slowed it
some, but it is still happening. So its obvious its in the comp not the
mouse, Can any one give me a cure all for this problem. I have virus
protection through Norton and have never had this problem before.
Please help. thanks. Chrystal
feel free to email me at (e-mail address removed) if you can help. Also

Do you have Microsoft Office? If yes, do you have Speech & Handwriting
Recognition enabled and a microphone turned on? Sounds like it. You can
turn this feature off by going to the Add/Remove Programs applet in
Control Panel. Click on the entry for MS Office and then on "Change".
Browse to "Office Shared Features," "Alternative User Input," and make
Speech and Handwriting Recognition (both) "Not available" from the
drop-down box.

No I do not habe microsoft office. I am running norton windows xp and
word pad and the regular games that are included with xp. Nothing
extra because trying to save space on the laptop. Still cant figure
this out... have tried to fix driver and reinstalled the mouse no
help. I think it is in the computer not the mouse. thanks for the
help.. Chrystal
If you always use a mouse with the laptop, see if you can disable the
touchpad. Perhaps there is a conflict with the touchpad drivers. Try
updating the touchpad drivers from Toshiba's site for your specific
model laptop. If it is an optical mouse, pay attention to the surface
on which you have it. Although optical mice don't need touchpads, if
you are trying to mouse on a surface the mouse doesn't like, try a
plain dark mousepad.

Then upgrade whatever mouse/pointing stick/device drivers you have. Look
in the Toshiba manual. Ask yourself what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't. Call Toshiba tech support. Take
the machine to someone local. Without being able to look at the
machine, I'm out of ideas - sorry.
