Can anyone tell me how to disable the feature
that "selects" whatever the cursor has hesitated over? I
find this very bothersome, as I have things changing on
me all the time and I finally figured out that once the
cursor is over something for too long it is as if I had
clicked it to select that item.

I hope there is a way to disable this feature, but
haven't even found any reference to it in the help file.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

If you are using the single click option, this can be an issue. To "turn it
off" you need to use the double click mouse option. Open Windows Explorer,
go to Tools, select Folder Options and you will see the single and double
click selections on the General tab.

Control panel \ tweakui \ mouse \x-mouse setting
The presence of the mouse provides focus without clicking.
