Currupted Users

I have a problem where two users are duplicated. I have one user which is
correct then another with the IDnumber after it such as
jdoe(929304839204893). This is only displayed when I search to add them to
local admins group. The extra one is not shown in Users and Computers. The
problem is causing a lot of authentication problems. Thank You

This typically means that two identically-named users were created at pretty
much the exact same time.

The user with the long number attached to it is sitting in your LostAndFound
container in Active Directory Users & Computers. You can either delete it,
or else rename it and move it to a more useful container or OU.

Unfortunately this isn't the issue. I am the only one that creates users and
I didn't do it. I swiitched my ISA server as well as my DNS and at that time
I had a lot of problems. This is only happened to a couple users. There is
nothing in the Lost and Found container. Thanks for the idea though.

Have you been able to do a search from the root of your domain for the user
object and find it that way? If you've had DNS issues and you're the only
one creating users, then the phantom user might be the result of replication
gone awry.

You may want to try compacting the AD database. (Be sure you have a good
backup first, naturally.)
