I have been tasked with creating the Win2K images for our user
machines. We run an NT 4 domain. Building the machine to create the
images has not been a problem except for one thing. I cannot figure
out how to give the current user rights to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER hive
in the registry.
We lock down parts of IE so that the users cannot change things like
the home page and other settings. Most of this is set through the
CURRENT_USER key. However, there are times when something does need
to be changed and the help desk will go in to the registry while the
user is logged in. With NT4 this was never a problem. With 2000, we
get an error message stating that the user doesn't have permissions to
change any of the settings. In our environment we need this ability
on the CURRENT_USER hive. Without making them power users or admins
on the local machine, is there any way to change this?
