Current Date Missing

For some reason the current date no longer appears
when I place the cursor over the current time on the
task bar; and for the life of me I can find nothing in
help as how to restore it. Any help with this greatly
appreciated.

(And I thought I knew how to operate this machine!)

Every once in a while, XP displays the tooltips *behind* the taskbar
instead of in front. Usually just logging off and logging back on again
will sort the display so that it works properly again.

Alternatively, adjust the taskbar to two rows to show date and time all of
the time.
