what is the most current buiold of the vista beta?

The current version available to the public is 5384 although there has been
another since which I think is only available to MSDN subscribers.

oh ok, when will the new build be available to the public? if you don't know
thats ok.

The latest build in use by the TechBeta testers is 5456 (aka "July drop").
Much later builds are in use internally at MS and by selected partners.

New builds are built overnight each night at MS.

There will be a TechBeta drop in August but it will not be RC1. The date of
release of RC1 is not known, even by MS at this point. No one will know the
build number of RC1 until RC1 is announced as available.

The nightly build process just keeps going right up until RTM approximately
six months from now.

I suspect the release build will be something like 56xx.

On the page you read and registered for the opportunity to test the beta
clearly stated that you will receive a notification by email when the RTM
release is ready.

oh ok

hopefully rc1 will be available to the public....
and anyother vista beta build after that...

RC1 will be available to those members of the public who applied for Beta 2
under the CPP. No additional builds will be available to CPP participants
after RC1 until the final release.

Doubtless, other groups will get a chance to try RC1 but I have seen no
announcements as to the names of such new programs.

MS will follow up with an email announcement of the General Public
Availability of Vista at release, so you are both right.

Remember my post about three hours ago, the one where I talk about
registering on a web site and MSFT notifying those who did when RC1
releases, and you responded with "oh ok?"

Yeah, that one.
