Curious Browser problem - DNS lookups

ok, first of all, the DNS server in question is my own, and it functions
correctly (tested with several other machines, as well as locally).

Ok, after setting up a DNS entry, i found that the IP conflicted with a
DHCP range (it was not currently assigned, so i did not realize at
first), so i corrected the entry to a non-conflicting IP.

System utilities (such as ping) resolve the address from name correctly,
but both MSIE and Netscape continue to try and use the former DNS entry
setting.

I have restart the system, and tried bypassing the DNS lookup by adding
an entry to the HOSTS file. in all cases, the same result.

The differences between MSIE and Netscape is simply that netscape uses a
proxy, and MSIE does not. MSIE is also limited by Zone Alarm to trusted
zone access only (IP of the system in question is within this zone) due
the the spyware and adware (i gave up on cleaning them out, too many to
count, and none are picked up by spyware removal programs, and even
going directly into the registry and removing them). in fact, before i
did this block, MSIE had pop-ups on every site i visited (including
local ones that i am sure are clean). it even tried to redirect the
local hostname to some other website (but was blocked).

But anyway, i'm fairly sure this will clear itself up as most other
curious system issues do (i swear sometimes my system is possessed).

But in the meantime, if anybody knows the cause, and perhaps a cure, i
would very much appreciate it, and i thank you in advance.

well, like i said, it fixed itself. MSIE still will not resolve the
host, but this is not a problem as i only used it as a control subject
to establish that the problem did not reside with only netscape.
