Cupped hand icon shows on printer page, won't print

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what does it mean
when a cupped hand icon shows on my printer page, where I
added the printer? I have only noticed this recently,
and am now having a problem with the printer. I realize
it may mean Windows support, but what do I do?
 
It means you're sharing the printer on a network -- did you intend to do
that?
 
"having a problem" is pretty vague.

What make and model of printer?
How is it connected to the computer (parallel port, USB, Ethernet)?
What symptoms do you observe and what makes them happen?
