I have been receive tons of bogus Microsoft emails
regarding a cumulative patch. There is an attachment on
each one with a virus. Does anyone know how to trace this
back to whoever is sending this stuff or at least how to
filter it out?

I am getting the same thing

There's no use tracing them, lots of the machines sending them out
are infected and the people dont know they have an infection. I rang
up a company here in Melbourne Australia where I live they were so
surprised they said will check it out, thanks to me they now have a
clean system, everyone must get a good firewall, updated virus
definitions and all the patches that Microsoft has come out with to be
up to date and they will catch nothing, this is what has happened to
me, 8 years online no infections to date be it worm or virus.

I never received one until I posted to these news groups. Not more than 30
minutes after I posted I had received several emails with the virus.

I decided to change my displayed email address. It's helped.
