Hello,

I am currently running a PIII 800EB (running at 133fsb) on my CUBX-L
with 512mb SDRAM and a GEforceFX 5700 256mb.

I can not afford to upgrade the motherboard at this time.
Im looking for a replacement CPU to give it that extra push.

What is the best (IE fastest) PIII (or other brand) chip that is
compatable with this board?

P.S. Would it be worth it to upgrade to 1gig SDRAM. Would there be any
improvement in game preformance?

.........

I upgraded my CUBX to a 1.3Gb Celeron Tualatin with this:-

I found a retailer with a boxed set of the converter and CPU,
it was too cheap to pass up and runs well.
Bear in mind the Tualatin is virtually P3 Coppermine spec anyway.

don't waste any more money on old equipment. you can upgrade to a 2G+
athlon processor and an nforce2 motherboard for the same money.

hint: mobile athlon 2500, no multiplier lock

google it.

For the *same* money? Rubbish.

LOL. cheap bastard ;)

Yeah it might cost some token bit more for some cheap stick of ram,
but yeah, a cpu and motherboard is a hell of a better deal.

And don't forget, you can sell off your old parts: motherboard, cpu,
ram, and various cards, which apparently should command a good price
from the true believers.

Better sell while they still believe.

On the one hand you have a little itty bitty extra smidgen of
megahertz choked off by the BX memory bus; on the other you're getting
2Ghz+, 400+FSB, AGP8x, USB2, Firewire, on board sound, on board lan,
SATA, room for memory expansion up to 3Gigs.

but... hey, spend that money on celeron's and adapters if you want.

you can lead a horse to water....

If you go back to the whole point of the post ...

"I can not afford to upgrade the motherboard at this time."

My statement holds true. I upgraded to a faster CPU for my BX board for
less than 25% of the cost of upgrading to a P4.
Not to mention you quote all this great additional benefit but fail to mention
the cost of that benefit.
Let's see .... AGP8x .... only a benefit if you buy an 8x gfx card.
USB2 .... if you buy USB2 peripherals.
SATA .... if you buy SATA drives and no real (speed) benefit anyway.
Firewire ... if you buy firewire peripherals.
Memory ... if you buy it.

Your "affordable" upgrade has turned into a major expense if you want to
really benefit from it.
