Well, you could ask an actual question rather than infer one. My
inferred reply is:

- See http://blogs.msdn.com/jeffdav/archive/2004/09/09/227502.aspx or
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/quickcomplete.htm. Maybe it was their
resolution to fix http://support.microsoft.com/?id=331485. The problem
noted at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=257042 is still screwing up
IE's address bar.

- Check your keyboard software, if any, which might affect behavior (by
changing shortcuts to use those you define in the keyboard software).
 
Hi,
First, enable Inline Autocomplete in Internet Options> Advanced.

Then, if necessary, run regedit and navigate to the following registry key.
Verify that the value (right pane) is correct.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AutoCo
mplete]
"Append Completion"="yes"

Also verify that these values are correct:
"Use AutoComplete"="yes"
"AutoSuggest"="no"
