CTRL-ALT-DELETE

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1. I have Norton 360
installed as well as Windows Defender. Norton and Defender run at different
times on different days. All of my e-mail is scanned before it is installed
on my computer. There are no known viruses on my computer. A few days ago I
noticed that my CPU would average nearly 80 to 90 percent. When I pressed
ALT-CTRL-DELETE it would not respond. I ran taskmgr from the command line to
see what processes were running. Nothing out of the ordinary was running. I
did see explorer.exe maxing at 50 percent at times. I read a few comments
about this issue and one response was to delete ( I normally rename)
vdmdbg.dll When I tried to do this I would get access denied. I did attempt
to change the ownership but was unable to. I also changed my login process
to require ctrl-alt-delete. When I did that it still would not accept it. I
ran the login screen utility to allow me to enter the ctrl-alt-delete from
the gui which did work (lucky for me). if anyone can help with this problem
it would be greatly appreciated.
 
If you have real time AV scanning then intergrating an AV with your mail app
is often self defeating, particularly Norton
MS Defender has frequently received poor reviews with regard malaware
detection
Generally you need 2/3 malaware apps as one catches what the other misses
I recently had to use 3 apps to clean a badly infected PC (Malaware/Trojans)
Niether Norton nor Trend Micro was able to clean the PC

Get rid of Norton 360. Your PC will speed up, I guarantee. Of course you
should considder another antivirus product, AVG and
Kaspersky are two I know wont slow down your PC and cause problems.

I agree with the other poster. Get rid of Norton and use AVG or even AVAST.
 
Don't use AVG 8.0 - it is slow. 7.5 is still OK. PCTools also has a free
anti-virus program, don't know how good it is.
 
Thanks for the response . My other question though is the main one. When I
press CTRL-ALT-DELETE nothing happens. I should get a screen that gives me
options such as running the task manager, etc. Can anyone help.
