the box comes up with no top on, where the X is to shut
it down, so you have to restart the computer ratehr than
just close the program. how do i fix this

Hi Michelle,

Why are you hitting C-A-D to close programs? Why not just use the program's
exit function (like you are supposed to)? I don't understand what you mean
by " the box comes up with no top on", please explain.

Double-click on the top border of the window.

Double-click on the top border of the window.

That's obviously the bit she can't get to as it is too high in the window.
I seem to recall a similar problem.
IIRC, I tempoarily increased the screen resolution so that I could then see
it to grab thetop and bring it down.

Maybe. But as I interpreted her message, she's running in small
footprint mode. Try it yourself; this is a toggle. Double-click
on the top, below the title bar to get small footprint mode, then
double-click on the top to turn it off.

Cheeze, why can't she click anywhere on the border? Why the top?

MY GUESS IS THAT SHE CAN'T SEE IT!
It is *above* where she can get to it....
Get it now?
READ what she wrote please...

No it won't (not for me, anyway)!
A d/click inside the box sends it to the task bar tho...
It can then be Rt clicked and closed from there in the usual fashion.

I did read it. *My* guess is that she *can* see it. The task
manager can run in what's what's called small footprint mode. It
looks like the normal task manager, except that it's missing the
top of the window (the Title Bar, the Menu Bar, and the tabs).

My interpretation of the phrase "the box comes up with no top on,
where the X is" is that she doesn't have the Title Bar, the Menu
Bar, and the tabs, and that she's running in small footprint
mode. There's no guarantee that my interpretation is correct, but
since it's a common problem, my guess is that it probably is.

You can toggle between the modes by following my instructions.
Doubleclick on a blank part of the line with the tabs to turn on
small footprint mode. Doubleclick the border to turn it back off.

Try it yourself.

Get it now?

Yes! My apologies, if needed!
I was trying to click the blue edge, rather than just inside it.
Also, I have never seen the *other mode* before :o)

OK, apology accepted. But next time don't be so quick to assume
the other person is an idiot.
