Ctr+S Problem

I have written in for help on this problem before. I haven't resolved it so
I'm writing again. I'm trying to autosave with notepad. People have
recommended macro programs.

They haven't worked. The problem is that after the macro saves the cursor
jumps back two spaces. Sometimes the cursor jumps back a whole line.

Clue 1. I have also noticed that when I take wordwrap off then the
autosave seems to work.

Clue 2. Even Ctrl+S without any macro program makes the cursor jump back
two spaces.

Clue 3. However Ctrl +S does work correctly with wordpad and word

Clue 4. I don't see any other program or processes running that might
interfere.

Clue 5 I have swapped out keyboards and that doesn't do anything.

Clue 6 I have tried turning off zonealarm or any other possible interfering
programs

Thanks, need your help folks

You are asking a lot of a lightweight text editor. Google around for a
Notepad replacement which might allow what you wish to do.

I'm no expert, but that doesn't really make sense to me. You mean the Ctrl+S
on the dropdown menu under file really shouldn't be there? Microsoft is
overselling and notepad really doesn't have the capability to reliably save
with these shortcuts?

That's just odd, I just tested it a dozen times and it works fine.

Thanks Alec, I was hoping you would show up. It seems to work correctly for
at least some of the people. I have read where at least other people on the
web having a similar problem.

I am running a Microsoft Tool called Microsoft Shared Computer Toolkit if
people think that is causing any problems?

In order to narrow down the problem can you volunteer some info.

When you are writing in notepad and saving with Ctrl+S are you using word
wrap?
What are you writing? (I mean what specific words are you writing)
What brand of processor do you use?
What type of data are you saving as ASCII, Unicode, or others?

I will continue to work the problem to see if I can nail it down some more?
Does anybody know where I can report it to microsoft?

1. I will do a virus check
2. I will do a fresh install of windows XP and then see if I can use Ctrl+S
accurately.
3. It is possible that I have an old macro recorder that is uninstalled but
still is mapped to this key I suppose?

Hoping others will brainstorm

I went to a friends computer and the same thing happened there with the
Ctrl+S problem.

I tried a program called "enhanced notepad" and so far I haven't had any
problems.

I have found other users on the net who have found this same problem with
notepad. Could it be something with the data type unicode or so on?

1 thing to do is tell your macro program to move the cursor forward after
doing Ctrl+S

Really? I checked just now and the only references to this problem that I could find ended up being your posts. Can you indicate
who/where others are having the problem? Maybe there is something in common that can narrow down your problem.
