Does any one know what solution to provide to windows 2000
when ctl-alt-del refuses to bring up the task list? The
option window appears, but after selecting Task List, it
returns to the desktop.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Could you check to see if you can run task manager as a standalone
application, and if it's still there , in the sysmtem32 folder? This is
usually whay it fails to start.

The button just runs the file, and you get no warning if not.

Most likely, this is because some virus/malware removes the file to keep
you from killing it (there is no hiding from Taskman in NT).

Taskmanager.exe is in the system32 folder and does open,
but now how can i link it back up with the button?

Thanks for your help, i can atleast see what i need to
manually

Okay... lessee.....
Does the delete key delete text like part of a URL in the address bar or
part of a text file? Have you tried turning off NumLock and used the delete
key at the bottom of the keypad?

Can you use the CTL ALT keys on the other side of the spacebar?

CTL - Shift - ESC will also bring up the taskmanager.
At least that would rule out 2 bad keys of a possible 3 bad keys.
