csv comma error

when i open a .csv file with excel, then save it again in .csv formatting, i
am losing the final delimiting comma at the end of each row on the file.
These files were originally created using excel and I cannot figure out why
the delimiter at the end of each row is essentially deleted when i save the
file.

Thanks in advance
Bill

the original has a comma, but i think it denotes another column that
currently is not populated with data, but there is a "header" for that
column. so from your reply my guess is the cause may be that the column
contains no data so excel sees no reason for a delimiter during the save. i
need to figure out how and why the delimiter got there originally. when the
csv file is used for loading into a database, the database of course expects
a column of data to match the column identified by the first row, since the
delimiter is dropped, it sees a column heading from the first row of data,
but no matching column or data. Any addtional thoughts on a fix are
appreciated.

Thanks again,
Bill

Bill;
Strange.
I tried this on xl2k and it worked for me;
Created a workbook, entered a header with three col headings.
Put data in the 1st two columns.
Saved it as a CSV.
Closed the file.
Checked the file ("V" file viewer) and trailing comma was present.
Opened the file and saved it.
Re-checked and the comma was there.

Then-just for fun (I don't get out much!)-I opened the file, saved it as a workbook
("XLS"), closed it, re-opened it and saved it as a csv.
Still has the trailing comma.

What version of xl are you using?
