heads up.

Crystal reports v10 for .net does not support windows 98se or windows
nt4.0

the merge modules will not install on those targets.

the company did not mention this in all their materials aimed at
getting you to buy it.

I had to search their kb after the fact to find out.

argh!

That would be because both are EOL and dead meat (and thus, rightly or
wrongly, companies now assume that it's understood that no support exists
for these OSes, just like Windows 95). If you're running either of these
you've got bigger problems than Crystal Reports not working :)

My company produces a software package for resale. It is a big problem
for me to say that my product does not support win98se just because I
chose crystal 10 as a component. This reduces my target market by
maybe 20%. Would your company like to take a 20% reduction in
revenue?

It shouldn't reduce your target market by that much because MS has
discontinued support for it (and shortly NT4). Thus companies are replacing
all of thse OSes pretty quickly....

Just stating the facts. It's pretty much impossible for a software developer
to support an OS that MS doesn't support anymore. Thus I don't blame
Crystal Reports at all. Our policy is that we will support an OS until MS
stops supporting it. Hence Windows 98se, 98, 95 and NT4 are all gone from
the list. We're strongly considering removing Me from the list too, because
it's so damn flaky that we get calls about stuff that has nothing to do with
us and thus it costs us more to support Me than to sell it to the customer.

Switch to Active Reports then. They have a CR importer utility.

I gave up on CR years ago because between new releases they did not fix bugs
from the prior release, did not include in the new release the features
advertised (false advertising - illegal here), new releases were eternally
buggy, locating updates was a PITA and you had to jump through hoops to get
them, support was non existant, not to mention the fact that if you included
1 small report in a small application the installation was instantly bloated
several fold in size.

AR isn't perfect, but it is none of the above - see www.datadynamics.com
