Crystal Reporting on Access database

I created a database in October of 2003. Along with , I created reports
thorough Crystal using the database. In December of 2004, I was informed that
my database was A2000 and that it should be converted to A2002. This was
completed and as a safety, I renamed the database.

Now I am unable to link the newer database in Crystal. The link for the old
database reports still work, but all new data has been added to the new
database and I need to get the data for reports which were due last week.

I am the only person that has ever had any type of acces to this database. i
created the ODBC link, the database and the Crystal reports. I obviously have
forgotten something.

Heklp ???

Thank you in advance.

Pardon my pet peeve for a moment, but why would you want to use Crystal
reports when Access has a built in report generator that is as good as and
much easier to use than Crystal reports? Ok..off the soapbox.

To the problem at hand: are you receiving some error message?

I have used Crystal for many years. I have an accounting SQL db, a payroll
SQL db, a scheduling SQL db and a few Access db which I have created several
hundred reports through. The training I have received was more toward the use
of creating report via SQL statements. Therefore, trying to convert the SQL
statements I have in place was too much of a hassle.

Unfortunately, I do recall it took me ahile when I originally setup the link
to the db from Crystal. I can not remember what I had done over a year ago.
Now when I try to establish a link to any of my Access databases, I am unable
to find them even though I know they are there. (no items found)

Further:

I was asked to enter the login and pw for Admin.

I have tried using the one-step info for admin to no avail. I have also
tried using my own logina nd pw to no avail. I have full rights to everything.

This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but, if you haven't already tried it,
what happens if you enter Admin as the user name and leave the password
blank?

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the

a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

Any chance there is a way for me to confirm what the Admin password is ?

I have tried my own userid and pw but same result.

After hitting cancel because I am unable to enter the id and pw, I receive
the following errors:
IADPI error. file is busy
then: file "my database" is not a known database type, please choose again

I'm thinking that possibly during the installation of Access 2002 or the
conversion from 2000 to 2002 format and renaming of the database your
original workgroup file may have been replaced. If you have a backup copy of
the workgroup (.MDW) file, you could try using that.

Lynn ... My experioence with Access is only about 18 months. i have created
some report with Access; report generator. "much easier" is far from the
truth. In Crystal I am able to make adjustments to the report as I am viewing
it. There is no switching from viewing the report to editing the report.
Unless I am missing something. I'll admit, my training on Access is surely
nowhere near the training I have received for Crystal (mostly self taught)
But, I believe Crystal Reports is far superior to that of Access' report
generator.

Now if i can only figure out how to get CR 8.5 to link to my A2002 secured
db. I was able to get CR 9 to link to the A2002 db. But, 8.5 allows me better
control of the SQL statement.

Thank you Brendan. Your reply promted me to attempt a join to the MDW. With
that, I was able to link to the A2002 db through the 9.0 Crystal Reports.
Unfortunately, I was not able to link using Crystal Reports 8.5, my preferred
reporting software. But, I'll make do. I have also tried bring the report
into Access as Lynn Trapp had suggested. Unfortunately, I receive an error
message when trying to view the report in Design View. (Microsoft Access
can't represent the join expression
'Employees'.'employeeid'='time_cards'.'employeeid' in design view) The SQL
statement works to the point that I am able save it as a report.

If you have Admins rights, you can go to Tools/Security/User and Group
Accounts - make sure Admin is selected on the User dropdown list, then click
Clear Password. This will clear it and you can log on as Admin to reset it.
