Hi, I am running xp home and have been having a lot of troubles with
downloading. The information bar keeps popping up and telling me that
active x is not installed . I have done the settings thing over and
over , still no downloads. Now when I try to load anything to the pc
via a usb flashdrive, I get a message telling me that the
cryptographic service must be turned on. Went to services and re- set
to Automatic, rebooted and still no service. What gives? I would rather
not do a clean install of xp as I have lost the disk. I know bad form
on my behalf. If you can help please do. Thanks in advance for any
inputs you may have.-J

Sounds like you have some corruption in your XP install unfortunately. Do
you have any restore points before the problems started? That might be your
only hope unless you can find your XP cd to do a repair install.
