Hello,

I would like to network two computers using a cross-over cable. My
computer is running XP Proffesional, Mum's is running XP Home. Simple
no?

The cable is plugged in to both... currently my end doesn't have any
light showing... that's new... oh well, anyway...

Yes, I know it's probiably better to get a hub, but not only can't I
aford it at the moment, but I am determined to get this set up
working! It should work... right?

ok, 'Kate' (my comp, XP proff) can ping 'sue', 'sue' when pinging
kate gets a request timeout. But Kate can see both comps on a 'net
view', sue can't - that comp gets a system error (6110). And going to
'My Network Place' or 'View comps on this working' doesn't improve
matters at all...

Both comps are on the same workgroup and there are shared files on
both.

That's about it, any help greatfully received... I've been working on
these for days now, so... can you kind people tell me how to do it??
I'm feeling very blond... dispite the years of education this simple
task has totally stumped me :-/

Many many thanks,

Amy K - going mad

One-way communication is usually caused by an improperly configured
firewall program on the computer that can't be pinged.

I've written a web site that should help you solve the problem:
