Cross-references limitation

Please advise what is the maximum numbers of cross-references that ca
be inserted into a word document? For example, can I create over fiv
hundred (500) cross-references within a regular document.

The number of bookmarks in a document is limited to 16,379. The number of
fields is limited to 32,000. Every cross-reference is a field, and each
requires a bookmark.
