Cross Reference field displays entire table instead of just thecaption name

Hello,

I created a table in a document and added a caption to it.
Further down this document I inserted a cross reference to this table, selecting the option: "Insert reference to: Only name and number".

Today I opened this document and every time this reference appears, the entire table is displayed in the document, instead of only the name and number of the table, which is what I want.
The only way I can find to make the tables disappear is to change these references to display the field code (by pressing Shift+F9), but then I cannot read the text as I would like (for example Table 4).
Is there an option to prevent word from displaying the reference together with the table itself every time the reference is used in the text?

thanks

In Word, cross-references depend on hidden bookmarks added to the
cross-referenced paragraph. If you added a new paragraph above the
cross-referenced one, by pressing Enter at the beginning of the paragraph,
you inadvertently expanded the bookmark to include the new content.

To avoid the problem in the future, make sure to always add new paragraphs
at the *end* of an existing paragraph (in documents with cross-references
that is).

To work around the current problem, just delete the cross-reference and add
a new one.
