I have two Windows 2000 domains in mixed mode. Both domains have two domain
controllers on Windows 2000 Server machines. Each domain is in its own
forest and there is a bi-directional trust between domains. The domains are
linked using RRAS VPN demand-dial connection and each is in its own subnet.
Each domain controller runs a DNS server with both forward and reverse
lookup configured correctly. Both forward and reverse name resolutions work
correctly in both domains and for computers in either domain.
However, there is a problem with network browsing. A computer in each subnet
can browse only computers in its own domain, and only its own domain name is
visible in My Network Places. However, any computer in another domain can
always be found using Search for Computers and can be accessed directly
using \\computer.name.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the browsing work? We tried
even configuring two WINS servers, one in each domain, but that didn't solve
the problem.
Any suggestions?
