It is available but hard to find.
Right-click on object - Format object - Picture tab - Crop from Left/Right/Top/Bottom - set the values and click OK.

Thanks TAJ for the efforts here. No, I am inserting object and browsing to
the Visio file location. I used to be able to do crop objects in a snap in
PP2003 and PP97. Did they take this functionality away in PP2007? In earlier
versions, I used to be able to crop the object to exactly the way I wanted
and then position it exactly where I wanted it. I spun my wheels on
positioning issue too, but thought if I could at least get the cropping the
way I wanted it, then I could get my placement consistent on the 3 slides I
was adding the Visio sheets to.
We add Visio drawings, Word tables, Excel charts, etc. as objects so that
they are editable by others. These presentations get shuffled around the
organization and not everyone is good about keeping all the related files
together. Further, inserted objects come in with a transparent background
which is really nice when it needs to overlap our gradient color scheme on
our slide master
I know about cropping pictures, but that is not my issue. Any other
thoughts? If this functionality is gone, who do we advocate to for its return
:
Object editability is a big deal in our case.
Object editability is a big deal in our case. A transparent backgroun
picture just is not really the solution
thanks Steve for trying,

Re: crop object in PP2007
Try this
Ctrl+C to copy it while it's selecte
Then Paste, choose Paste Special and select PNG as the paste type
Now it's a PNG image, which will crop like any other image

Re: crop object in PP2007
That's a problem then ... you're talking about a vector graphic (ie one composed
of lines, shapes, etc). PPT can't crop them, only raster (ie, image) graphics
One alternate approach you could try though
Draw rectangles that cover up the area of the graphic you want to crop, then give
the rectangles no outline and set the fill to Background. You can't do this from
the paintbucket tool on the drawing toolbar for some odd reason. Instead,
doubleclick the rectangle to bring up the formatting dialog. "Background"
appears there as one of the fill color options

I am surprised and a rather dismayed to find cropping objects in ppt2007 not
possible.
Perhaps I need to consider this a trade-off for other gains.

Actually..
Actually..I have used the crop tool on an inserted Visio object in PP2003
and PP97. In fact, I double checked again today to make sure I wasn't
misremembering. It works in those versions of PP. Try it.

the usual drill... insert>object> from file> then browse to the file location.
the usual drill... insert>object> from file> then browse to the file
location. Once it is inserted, you can select it and use the cropping tool on
the picture tool bar. Works with Word tables too. Again, I like it for the
editability and the transparency effect you get. I often crop out the white
space and then size the object to the way I want it. This is MUCH more
cumbersome in PP2007.

Yahbut ... you can't trade off what you never had. ;-)
PPT's never been able to crop objects, just images.

I don't have Visio installed, but maybe we can hum a few bars and fake it ...
How did you get the Visio object into PPT?

Re: crop object in PP2007
Thanks for mentioning the Word tables. And for sticking with me. That makes the "bingo"
happen here too. Plain old Word docs too. Learn something new every day here ... again,
thanks.
Indeed it is!
About the closest equivalent I can see would be to rightclick the table/visiothing, save as
picture, then insert the picture and crop that (and KEEP the original, perhaps dragged off the
slide and out of sight) so you can later edit it and resave as picture if need be.
Cumbersome.
