Check the version of the files on you computer.

Determining Which Version of Internet Explorer You Are Using
All versions of Internet Explorer 5 that are customized with Microsoft
Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) include one of the following
strings after the version number when you click About on the Help menu:
IC = Internet Content Provider
IS = Internet Service Provider
CO = Corporate Administrator

siljaline,

I don't think that the troubleshooter mentions this embarrassment.
The problem usually is that the patch that the user is trying to install
has been superseded by something that he already has installed.
In this case it would not be surprising if the user already has installed
the latest cumulative patch, e.g. Q828750.

As usual the poster gives no indication of OS or maintenance level.
(Sigh.) The simplest answer is just to direct them to the Windows Update
site and assume that it will sort out the details provided they don't try
to second guess it.

The trouble is thathat I am inundated with e mails purporting to be from
microsoft with a critical update attachment (virus). I have been getting 2-6
per days for three months or more, so have been wary about anything to do
with Microsoft. Wasn't even 100% sure I was on the Microsoft homepage, but
just went for it.

Hi Robert,
Operative word (sigh) ;) We do what we can with what information provided or,
lack thereof. Thanks for the comment!
