Critical updates now show zero

A friend with w2k went to critical updates. They have dial up and
one of the service packs was taking forever, so I advised them to
go ahead and get all the small updates (that weren't exclusive) first.
They did, but now when they go back, it shows zero when they know
they haven't downloaded a couple of the exclusive downloads.

What is going on here? Thanks
 
Is it possible that the automatic update feature was enabled? What is the
machine's current SP level?

Right click "My Computer", then "properties".
If it has an SP level it will displayed on the general tab under System
heading.
