I use my system to work on projects that can take days with a lot of input
required as I work.

so why does the damn thing ask me to reboot twice a day with each new update
installed?

I have a mind to turn off the updater if it is going to be so inconvenient.

and to make it worse, as I type code in I keep getting interruptions of nags
to reboot. these nags steal the screen and demand a prompt. but if you're
typing and accidentally hit the wrong key without seeing the screen, a
reboot happens.

please someone code this to not nag for reboots

Hi,

The best solution for your problem is to change the options in Automatic
Update. Go to the security center and open Automatic Updates. Now select the
second option"Download Updates for me, but let me choose when to install
them". This way you will have the option when to install and restart the
system. Because after an update is installed a restart is required.

This way you can choose the time when you can install and restart the
computer, your computer will get all the necessary updates and you'll get rid
of that pop up to restart the computer.

If you don't want it to be automatic, set it not to be automatic. You
can't have your cake and eat it too, sorry.

hi, of course I understand this. most updates never state that they will
want a reboot after installation, I might as well turn it off altogether.

I just wanted the peace of mind of a patched system that is always online.

Can you set up a user as "no updates" for use during the day then switch to
an "auto updates" user at day's end (then leave the machine on all night)?

I have never had automatic updates turned on. I just check windows
update every once in a while.

sure, but you get all those warnings from every one that you must have the
latest patches or your machine is vulnerable.
