For your information:

After you set up Microsoft Windows Firewall in Microsoft Windows XP Service
Pack 2 (SP2), you may discover that your computer can be accessed by anyone
on the Internet when you use a dial-up connection to connect to the
Internet.

This update appears to prevent my XP VPN connection from completing its
connection - it waits for a long time during the 'Verifying user name
and password' phase and then fails with an error (I don't have the
number, I'm afraid, I've had to roll back to get access to work and
cannot currently repeat the condition) Is there a workaround?

Thanks,

Rupert Goodwins

Like Rupert, my XP VPN connection no longer works after installing
KB886185, but the symptoms are different - 'Verifying user name and
password' goes without problem but a drive share on the remote server
computer no longer works. It is also impossible to re-make the share.
Turning off the firewall for this VPN connection (only) on the outgoing
computer (not the server at the office) fixes the problem but is
clearly not satisfactory. Any other ideas anyone?
