I'm having a huge problem that is eluding me. Safe mode works fine, as long
as I don't try to bring up the network. When I try to boot normally or go
into SM w/ networking, I get a BSOD about cannot load rassptp.sys, and when
I go into recovery console to try and disable it, I'm being told the
registry entry cannot be found. I tried to reload SP4, but, I have SMS2k3
on here (Which is what caused the problem) and it will not allow it. I have
to, at the minimum, get the data off this drive. My worse case scenerio is
to re-install without reformatting, and copy the data files off, then
reformatting and such. I have the added bonus of this is a DC with the FSMO
roles, which I'm forcing off to my second DC. I'm clueless at this point
and need some assistance.

Thanks,
Sueffel

Hi Sueffel,

Thanks for your posting here.

Are you sure that the file mentioned is rassptp.sys? I cannot find any
information about this file in our knowledge base.

Based on current status, I recommend that you perform a parallel
installation on the computer and copy the important data from the original
system.

Please refer to the following article for the detailed information.

Guessin he mean raspptp.sys - the WAN PPTP miniport driver. Lose that and
it'd certainly annoy bringing up net svcs.
