Used the program happily for quite a while, then "critical error 103"
appeared. Did exactly what it said (uninstall/reinstall). Had to do it at
least half a dozen times before I had a stable program. Now its done it
again. Uninstall, download, go through wizard. Opt for "run program" and it
works fine. Next time I click on the icon - up comes critical error. This
doesn't happen on my wife's machine (very similar machine, also XPSP2
firewall enabled, also direct link from netgear router (Broadband 1 meg). Is
there anything known to cause this (? a program on my machine which is not on
wife's?). At present I've left it uninstalled as I'm fed up!

Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders.
eg: c:\temp, c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local
Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will change depending on your
name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for
mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectories).

You may need to delete the MSAS folder in program files and run a registry
cleaner like Ccleaner after removing it from add/remove screen to fully
remove all traces of MS Antispy if it is a damaged installatiºn.

1. Goto Start Menu then Add/Remove Progrªms

Select Microsoft Antispyware and press Remºve

2. Goto C:/drive > Program Files and delete the MSAS fºlder

3. Goto Start Menu then search and select all files and folder's Search for
these files and delete them (They will be in system32)

gcUnCompress.dll
GCCollection.dll
hashlib.dll

Open Ccleaner and press "Run Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and then
press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.(Clean "Windows" "Applications" and
"Issues"

Rebººt

Then Visit Microsoft's site and reinstall MS Antispy:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Download MSAS again and choose to save file NOT run it from MS. After
download run setup.

Good luck

Jeez - Engel, that was some "try again"! I copied it all down and followed your guide exactly. My heart was in my mouth at times as I was getting rid of things I didn't understand (but not experienced any glitches - yet). When I downloaded MSAS again I used SAVE. I then instructed it to run and followed the wizard. Then it gave me 3 easy steps. I decided not to ask for automatic updating as I know it takes a long time to update it to the current release (I left that for later). I then clicked on the icon and it launched. I then asked it to run - and it did (no problems identified). I closed it then clicked on the icon again (meaning to update to the latest release). Critical error 103! In other words I can run it once after downloading but only once. Thanks for your help but I think I will abandon it for now. ps the only existing file (that looked as though it might be MSAS in sys32) that I didn't delete was gcTypLibA as there was nothing in its description to say
that it really was MSAS. The uninstall sure leaves a lot of miscellaneous files still on the machine, doesn't it! Once again, thanks for your efforts.
