criteria not accepting 2nd*

I have made a query for my school's grades. I have a query that just looks at the 1st 6 weeks grades by using the criteria for the 6 weeks as: Like "1st*", and it gives me the results that I expect. When I change the criteria for the second 6 weeks to: Like "2nd*", I get a mesage that the bookmark is not valid.
Why?
Fortunately I tried: Like "*nd*", and got the expected results.
Any help/explanation would be greatly appreciated. Will this happen other times?
 
Post the full SQL statement of the query with the second crtierion and let's
see what you have.
