What criteria does Windows use for selecting computers that should
appear under a given domain, e.g. a.1.x.y.z?
I don't think it's a simple query of A-records etc. in the DNS.
It seems to be related to just the first token of the domain, with much
potential for confusion.
For example, I have a domain named a.1.x.y.z. Some workstations are in
subnet S1, while other workstations and the DCs are in subnet S2. If I
build a new domain controller for domain a.2.x.y.z, and connect it to
S1, the workstations in S1 suddenly can only see workstations in S1.
Previously, they were able to see all stations/DCs which belonged to
a.1.x.y.z.
It's as if the workstations (Windows) only looks at the first token of
the domain name (in this case, "a").
A solution to this mystery would be much appreciated.
