I justed purchased a new Sony Hard Disk Camcorder. The camera creates files
in the MPEG2 video format. When I import them into the movie maker, I am
able to create a story board and play clips. When I try and create a movie
file, I get an error that WIndows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the
specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie
are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that
there is enough free disk space available, and then try again.

I know I have plenty of disk space, and the saving location is available.
The source files are available but I wonder if the Movie Maker cannot handle
the format.

Any thoughts?

Movie maker can only handle MPEG1 file, but not MPEG2 file.
You need a video converter software to convert your MPEG2 file into WMV file
first before you import it into movie maker project
Movie maker always save your project in WMV file
You need to convert it back into MPEG2 file before you burn in into your DVD
disc as most the home video player can only read MPEG2 file, but not WMV file
(except the latest video player which can play WMV file)

NB: I found that if your convert your MPEG2 file into WMV file with some
video converter softwares, you will loss some resolution

Can you recommend any alternatives to Windows Movie Maker that can do movie
editing using the input MPEG2 files?
