Hello all
Setup: had win2k native AD with 1 exchange 2000 and 2 DCs dc1 and dc2.
i move all FSMO roles and other services to dc2. I demote dc1, run /forestprep and /domainprep, and do an inplace upgrade of dc2. this seems fine.
then i cleaninstall dc1 and run dcpromo.
dcpromo do some stuff and then starts replicating a batch of objects (approx 2000 objects) then starts replicating a second batch (approx 8500 objects) but at 4500 it stops and repports: "...active directory mismatch with the servers involved.
there is a number of events, of which most seems to relate to some exchange stuff. e.g.

Internal event: The following schema class has a superclass that is not valid.

Class identifier:
259205885
Class name:
msExchPublicMDB
Superclass identifier:
259205882

in the dcpromolog it says:
......
Replicating CN=Configuration,DC=xxx,DC=xx: received 4240 out of approximately 8122 objects
12/30 16:46:40 [INFO] Replicating CN=Configuration,DC=xxx,DC=xx: received 4506 out of approximately 8122 objects
12/30 16:46:43 [INFO] Error - Active Directory could not replicate the directory partition CN=Configuration,DC=xxx,DC=xx from the remote domain controller srv78pidc.xxx.xx. (8418)
12/30 16:46:46 [INFO] NtdsInstall for xxx.xx returned 8418
12/30 16:46:46 [INFO] DsRolepInstallDs returned 8418
12/30 16:46:46 [ERROR] Failed to install to Directory Service (8418)
......

strange there can be a mismatch between one server ?

and how do i clean up this mess ?

thank you

Nicolai,

I have done some research on this issue and I found one other person with
the same problem that you are having. In their case, they had to dcpromo
down the DC with the schema mismatch problem and then repromote it.

The problem may be that the schema mismatch may have been caused by the
exchange 2000 schema extensions that were mangled when you ran forestprep
originally. If this is the problem, you will want to clean up the mangled
attributes before repromoting the new DC. Please see the following kb
article for more information on how to do this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=314649

I hope this helps.
