Creating (php) intranet with calendar / pim

I'm looking to create a basic intranet using php. To start with we're
looking to have a company calendar for the week / month ahead which is
editable by all. Also some form of contact list and a news page.

I'm a programmer but new to php. Are there any good tools for putting a
skeleton php intranet site together? Or maybe some good how to urls.

Can someone recommend some calendar / pim components that could be used?
