I am trying to create a slide show the first and last parts are intended to
be manually-click transitioned, the middle is meant to be run as an animated
continuous loop(until esc). How can I incorporate these different directives
into one slide slide show? Set-up show will only let me do one or the other
but not both (manula and part animation). Will creating a custom show help
somehow? Thanks much. Greg

This is easiest in slide sorter view.

Ctrl click all slides to be "on click" and in slide transition pane choose
"on click" DO NOT press apply to all.

Now ctrl click the auto slides and set an auto timed transition again DO NOT
click apply to all. Done (hopefully)

John thanks for your reply, but that doesnt seem to work. When I run the
slide show it always ends after the manually transitioned part

you need two seperate presentations:
- one mainpresentation with the first and last part
- one with the middle part

The middle part must be set up as "Presented by a speaker (full screen)" and
"Lopp continous until Esc" and "Using timing, if present". The slide
transition for this part must be "Automatically after xx seconds" for every
slide. Save the middle part.

In the main presentation insert an empty slide at that point where the
middle part should start. On the empty slide:
- Insert / Object / Create from file
- choose the middle part presentation
- extend the picture of the object (the first slide of the middle part) so
that it covers the whole slide
- choose "Custom Animation / Add Effect / Object Actions / Open (or Show)"

Now you can manually click through the first slides. When the middle part
begins just click one time to start the loop, it will continuously show the
middle part. Click again to stop the middle part and to continue with your
last slides.

John and Pia, Thank you for your help. I ended up using Pia's direction and
with some fiddling I got it to work. I have PP 2000, so an older version. But
all is good that ends good. Thanks again, Greg.

Sorry, misread the question!

Try this leave the transitions and looping as you have it. Put the loop
slides into a custom show (slide show > custom shows > New.) Make these
slides hidden slides.

At the appropriate point add an action button with the action hyperlink to
custom show > tick show and return. See if that does it.

Alright , I had to change the shoe set-up to apply to all the slides. But I
still have a problem because I want my animated section to contiously loop
unitil esc, and it always ends after the first go through?

in PPT 2000 it's a bit different from my solution - fine that you could get
it to work!
