I am trying to create a new user account for XP Professional - when I attempt
to do so, I get asked for user name, and a separate domain name. When I
enter the new user name, and copy the domain name listed for the existing
users, I am prompted to set the user privileges, but am then getting the
error message "User called xxxx/DELLGX260 does not exist.

I have successfully configured new users on XP Home, but am unsure what to
do. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Chris

It may have been - I got it from a former employer who used it in an office
environment. How do I find out?

Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" then click on the
"Computer Name" tab. It will tell you on that screen if you are member
of a Workgroup or Domain. You can click on the "To rename this computer
or join a domain, click Change" button and you will see a clear
indication as to the membership of the machine.

PS: If the machine is member of a domain DO NOT disjoin it from the
domain unless you know the password for the local Administrator account!
After you disjoin the machine you need to log on locally as an
administrator to be able to complete the domain disjoin. If you cannot
log on locally with an administrator account you will not be able to log
on to the computer at all!
