Creating multiple Powerpoint presentations linking to Excel

I need to produce multiple Powerpoint presentations that link to Excel data.
The Powerpoint does not change, only the Excel data values. We want to save
everything for reference. I thought that I could do this by creating a model
Powerpoint and Excel “set†in the same folder, then copying the folder and
changing the Excel data. I expected that doing this would result in the
Powerpoint data automatically being updated. It works most of the time, but
not always. This morning I can’t get it to work at all; the new Powerpoint
still points to the Excel data in the previous location.

Should this method work? If not, what can I do to mass produce these
presentations with identical formats, but different data?

Not really. PPT will always look for the Excel file along the original path.

Several different options:

1) After copying the Excel file to the same folder as the PPT, make the original
Excel file go away. Copy it off to a removable drive and remove the drive,
delete the original file so PPT can't find it. It should then look in the folder
with the PPT.

2) Our FixLinks add-in will reset the links to point to the xls in the folder
with the PPT. http://www.pptools.com/fixlinks/

3) Our PPT Merge add-in might be the best bet though, depending on the data you
need to pull from Excel. It'll do, in effect, Merge Printing to create new
presentations that merge your Excel data and a template presentation.
