Hi,

I would like to setup a "closed" LAN for my personal use without
connecting to the internet.

I think a simple switch will be enough (or router?)

- Is it true? If not, what do I need?
- How do I configure the IP addresses on the machines connected?

Thanks a lot,
Hagay.

A switch will be enough, but it will be easier to set up the network
using a router.

With a switch, configure each computer's LAN connection with a static
IP address. Typical addresses for a LAN are 192.168.0.x (where x is
from 1 to 254), using a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

With a router, each computer's LAN connection will automatically
obtain its IP address configuration from the router's built-in DHCP
server.
